Alex
Alex is a dedicated and experienced Latin teacher. He is passionate about modern and classical languages and is proficient in Cantonese and literate in Chinese.
He holds a BA in Anthropology (cum laude) from Temple University where he took Latin – Ovid at senior level, and Sociolinguistics at MA level. In addition, he holds a MPhil from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a CertTESOL certification from Trinity College in London.
His interest in and passion for Latin drove him to first study it on his own. He began by translating passages from Caesar’s Gallic Wars. He then went on to study at university where he received full marks for translating passages from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Ars Moris and Ex-Ponto.
Alex has now been teaching Latin for 6 years in Hong Kong to both young learners and adults. He is therefore very familiar with all GCSE and A-Level requirements.
Alex is a traditional Latin teacher, who prefers to use contemporary teaching methods to fully engage his students. He is able to pass on his passion for Latin by combining his knowledge of the classical world of Western Europe with his Latin teaching.
