Ways to Stay Focused While Studying

Ways to Stay Focused While Studying
Do you find it difficult to stay motivated and focused on your studies? It is no secret that maintaining your focus while studying can be difficult at times, whether you are studying for an exam or simply working on an assignment.
In this blog, I am going to share a few tips that could benefit you and help improve in maintaining your focus while studying.
Create a suitable study environment
It is very important to create a study environment that is suitable for you. If you’re studying at home, make space for yourself where you can easily place the things you will need such as your electronic devices, notebooks, and snacks! (Yes, it is very important to have snacks with you while you study).
However, if you are like me, who prefers to study outside rather than at home, at places like a cafe, the library, or even the school campus, make sure that you have a suitable study environment.
Set goals

Set goals & plans
Setting goals can act as a motivator for you while you are studying. Write down all the goals you want to achieve such as “I want to pass this exam with this certain grade, so I can attend my dream university”, or “I want to achieve my dream job”. Once you have finished writing your goals, keep the paper visible in front of you, whether it’s on your MacBook or a sticker on the table next to your textbook. This way you can always motivate yourself to stay focused on your study and to work towards your goals.
Create a study schedule
Creating a study schedule can help you stay on track with your progress toward your goals and help you get into the flow of things. With a study schedule, you can easily plan your time while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Do not use all your free time to study, you will just tire yourself out, and you will waste your time. Make sure to add a bit of free time to your day-to-day schedule, to give yourself some rest, and more importantly, to give your mind some rest.
Get rid of distractions
This is an obvious point, but at the same time, it is a necessary point to add. Before studying, be sure to get rid of all distractions around you, such as your phones. Turn on the focus mode on your phone, so that you don’t receive any notifications whatsoever, or – even better – keep your phone out of sight. This will help you stay focused on the task at hand. There will be plenty of time to check your phone when you are completely done with the task at hand.
Pomodoro Technique
A technique that has been praised repeatedly over the years by students, including myself. This technique is very simple to do, you simply work for a certain amount of time and then take a rest for a certain amount of time. It is usually recommended that students study for 25 minutes and then rest for 5 minutes. This way, you allow your brain to take a quick break and allow you to freshen up, like a quick pick-me-up.
Getting enough rest
Sleep is essential! Getting a good night’s sleep can help maintain your focus while you study and it allows your mind to take a breather and to prepare for the next day. When you have energy, you will be more attentive at the task at hand. So be sure to have at least 7-8 hours of sleeping time the night before to wake up feeling fresh and ready.
Use of energy
How to use your energy properly is something that everyone should learn how to do. For example, when you are fully energetic and motivated, focus on something that will require your full attention, and when you feel that your energy level is being reduced, it is best to shift gears and change your focus on a subject that requires less concentration. Sometimes, walking back and forth in the room you are in can help improve your focus, and it allows the blood to circulate in your body, making you more active, it also helps to ward off sleepiness while studying and it just gets rid of boredom entirely.
Listening to music
This is a personal favourite of mine Throughout my school life, I would constantly listen to music while doing an assignment or studying for an exam. However, the type of music I listen to differs, depending on what I’m doing. When I am doing an assignment, I tend to listen to any music I want since, in my opinion, doing an assignment is less stressful than studying for an exam. But, when I am studying for an exam, I tend to listen to Low-fi songs. Low-fi stands for “Low fidelity”. It involves a different mix of genres such as jazz, hip hop, pop, and many more, and it often doesn’t involve any lyrics, so it’s just a calm sound playing in the background while you are studying.
Study with friends
For the final tip of this blog, studying does not have to be something that you do on your own. Try creating a study group with your friends who are planning to study or do the same assignments as you. That way, you have that morale support, to push you towards your goals, as well as helping each other out with parts that may seem a bit difficult to understand (Nothing wrong in asking for a little bit of help every now and then). Moreover, having a study group can really improve your bond together and create a joyful experience.
That is all the tips I have for you, I hope you enjoyed reading this blog! You do not need to try all of them, just try to do a bit of experimenting on the ones that interest you to see which way suits you the best. Moreover, these aren’t limited to just studying, it could be used for your work life as well.
